The way to town was annoyingly silent, Dean had the music off. He wasn’t hiding how upset he actually was.

-Honestly Dean, things were going so smooth with your brother, you should at least have the decency of telling me why you cockblocked us.

That was it. Dean moved the car away from the road and stopped.

-Dammit Gabriel you cannot be seriously asking me that!

-Well I deserve some answers, don’t I!?

-If you’re so desperate for answers then go on and read my mind you stupid feathered ass!

-I don’t want to read your mind! I want you to tell me what you want to say! I told you ages ago what I thought about intruding like that!

Dean slammed his hand against the wheel in a fit of rage and frowned while leaning over it. Gabriel knew perfectly well it would be the easiest thing to do as Dean asked and get into the hunter’s mind right now but he knew better. He knew that if there was still any type of trust between them it would be utterly lost if he chose the easy way.

Dean took a deep breath and faced the archangel once more after what seemed a long internal struggle.

-Sam, he… he doesn’t just want to have you as a booty call. He’s got a crush on you.

-I know.

Silence filled the car numbing Dean like static. He was staring blankly at the archangel, all the words he was about to say stuck in his throat.

-I’ve known ever since I helped you get away from Lucifer’s grasp at the pagan reunion.

-Wh… Why…?

-Why? Why I never said a thing? Why I never made a move before? I probably would have if all your brother wanted was a one night stand but he wanted something more, something deeper. I can’t give him that.

-I thought that now that you were here with us…

-What? That it was gonna be a matter of time? Is that why you have been trying your best to hate me? To push me away from you? To force me into your brother’s arms? -Gabriel left out a sardonic, bitter laughter that made Dean wince inside. -Well don’t I feel like an idiot. It’s so obvious now why you were never happy by my side.

Dean reached for the archangel’s arm and held it tight, he had the feeling that if Gabriel left now they wouldn’t be able to find him ever again. Gabriel turned to look at the hunter but Dean was holding his gaze down. He didn’t understand why it was this hard to say such simple words.

-I just wanted to make him happy. Sammy, he, he deserves to be happy. -Dean’s voice came rougher than intended. -Whenever we were out having fun I couldn’t help feeling like I was doing wrong.

Gabriel was truly frustrated now, specially because he got it. He understood Dean being adamant against him settling in the bunker knowing his brother had a crush on him. He understood being pushed aside in an attempt of forcing him towards Sam after having to allow him in. Was there something more worthy of being talked about by now? At this point, he just wanted to run away, he was more than ready to leave this stupid hunter behind even if that broke his heart. Dean’s grip on him got rougher, it was like he was the one able to read the archangel’s thoughts.

-But when I saw you taking Sam out that first time I…-Dean was trembling now.

Everything suddenly looked clear for Gabriel now. He leaned towards Dean and reached for his head to tilt it upwards, to force Dean to look at him. Dean tried to fight it but the moment he finally gave in and noticed how close the archangel was he knew there was no going back.

Dean pulled Gabriel towards him and clashed his mouth with the archangel. Gabriel reached towards him, pressing himself more, holding Dean close. Desperate to feel him he opened his mouth inviting the hunter. Dean went in, locking his arms around the archangel, kissing him like this was the only time he’d be allowed to have this and he’d lose it forever afterwards.

Time went by, Dean was the first to move away, but not too much. He was high on Gabriel’s touch and taste. Both of them with messed up hair and heavy breathing, turned on and showing it through the fabric of their jeans. Their gazes travelled through each other’s features until they met once more.

-Let’s go somewhere private, I can snap a salad for Sam.

-I don’t think… -Dean’s retort was shut by Gabriel’s mouth. Admittedly, the angel’s hands pressing his sides and slowly going upwards his chest was more than what he could stand. He sighed and made way to get back on the road after separating himself from Gabriel, trying to remember where the closest motel was.

The place was the least of the issues, Gabriel snapped the interior into a luxurious suite filled with soft light, dark woods and smooth silk bed sheets once they were inside the place. They somehow managed to go across the room while kissing and fumbling with each other’s clothes and were already worked up more than enough by the time they landed over the soft and inviting bedding.

Dean was pressing the archangel against the mattress, adorning his neck with soft bites from the crevasse at the start of his neck all the way up to his ear, where he licked it softly, letting his breath fall upon the wet surface, making the archangel’s skin tremble with anticipation. Listening to Gabriel’s fast breathing urged Dean to prove the archangel’s skin sensitivity more. To think that he was actually able to be there, doing this with him was something he hadn’t expected but Dean was desperate to make the most out of it. He kissed Gabriel roughly while the archangel surrounded his waist with his legs, positioning himself in such a luring way that the hunter couldn’t help but press onto his invitation.

He lined himself against Gabriel, using his hand to keep the angle but stopped before entering.

-Don’t worry Dean-o, you’re not gonna hurt me.

Dean doubtfully glanced at the archangel, his amber colored eyes were glowing unnaturally, showing everything but fear. He was desperate for Dean to penetrate him and if the hunter didn’t make his mind soon he was going to take the matter on his own hands. It wasn’t necessary, the flash of lust Dean caught in the deepest part of Gabriel’s eyes were incentive enough for the hunter to thrust slow and firmly all the way in.

The soft moans of pleasure Gabriel let out while he surrounded the hunter with strong warm muscles were making Dean lose his head, it felt beyond good, he had never had another man or woman that felt like this before. He was suddenly overrun by the raw desire of owning Gabriel in every single possible way, making him his and not allow anyone else enjoy him. Dean began to thrust fast against Gabriel’s ass, instilling the angel to breathe faster while pronouncing Dean’s name in a soft contented whisper.

-Fuck, I want you Gabe. I want you to be mine. Say you’ll be mine.

Gabriel was about to open his mouth and say something before Dean began to thrust hard and mercilessly against Gabriel’s ass, making him shoot his head back in a moan with the sudden force. He screamed Dean’s name and pressing his nails against the hunter’s back, all the time begging for more. Pearls of sweat forming through their skin, it wouldn’t take long before Dean gave in but he wanted Gabriel to remember him even after he was done. One of Gabriel’s hand locked itself on the lower part of Dean’s neck for stability while the other went to grab his own dick and jack it off.

-Let it out Dean, we’ll do it together.

Gabriel used his muscles to squeeze Dean tight, sending shivers through the spine of the hunter. He felt the spasm of the climax and moaned hard, faltering Gabriel’s name through his strained vocal cords while his cock pulsed strings of cum inside the archangel. Gabriel followed soon letting out a restrained gasp while he covered himself in his own release.

An instant later, Dean fell by the archangel’s side still unable to pace his breathing, drops of sweat making their way down his sides, chilling him up a bit. Both went up into the bed to fall properly on the pillows.

-Never thought you’d be the possessive kind of guy.

Dean’s neck turned red in a rush.

-Yeah I… – He stopped mid-sentence. What was he going to say? “I’m sorry”? The problem here was that he wasn’t, he wasn’t sorry at all. He regretted saying those words now that the big brother part reminded him Gabriel was supposed to be Sam’s but he still wanted him. He wanted Gabriel so bad.

Gabriel turned Dean’s face towards him. He could see Dean’s internal struggle, it wasn’t like he was trying to hide it at all.

-Still thinking that I should go to Sam?

Dean shuffled uncomfortably.

-I want to be yours.

-You’re not saying it just because I fucked you like this?

-Well, it’s always a bonus if you fuck me like this.

The archangel smiled gently and closed the gap between their mouths, this time there was no rush and the kiss was gentle and caring. Gabriel wanted to show Dean how big of a mistake it would be if he tried to keep pushing him towards Sam when it was obviously not his own intention to go towards the younger brother.

Sam’s salad was amazing, it had been waiting for him at the kitchen counter under a glass dome and tasted like all the cobb salads he ever had before were just pale imitations of the real thing, the one he had in front of him right now. Still, there was no sight of Gabriel or Dean.

By the way things had gone before they left the bunker this was either excellent or terrible news. He just hoped for the first one.

He took a sip of his beer, absentmindedly looking at nothing, trying to figure out what had happened between them. He knew that Gabriel had been constantly trying to make Dean happy and that his brother was just not biting in, suspicious of him. Things had been going kind of like that for months. If it hadn’t been for the day Gabe took him out to the Smithsonian and began to sleep with him…

Sam’s eyes flared up with understanding. It was so obvious he didn’t get why he had overlooked it for so long. It was true they never really talked about that kind of stuff, not since Lisa anyways and probably his own infatuation with Gabriel might have been one of the reasons Dean didn’t bring it up at all. Sam was conflicted trying to find a solution, he wanted Dean to be happy but in order for that to happen he’d have to give up on Gabriel. Still, considering how things had been, there was a small voice inside of him wondering if he honestly thought having Gabriel by his side was what he really wanted.

-Sam?

-Hey Cas. What’s up?

-I saw you quite distracted, wondered if something was wrong.

-What? No, no, it’s alright I… Actually, uhm, can I ask you something about Gabriel?

-…If it’s something I can answer.

-Do you think he… Do you know if he has ever dated a human before?

Cas stilled. -I thought you were already dating him.

Sam’s ears turned out a blush of pink. -It’s not… I mean, are angels and archangels allowed to date humans?

Cas was looking a bit stern, even by his own standards. -There have been many cases where angels take humans as partners even with the initial rejection of the host. But even against odds the real problems come when nephilim are born, like in Jack’s case.

-So as long as there are no nephilim involved…

-Gabriel shouldn’t have to be prosecuted on that issue. He still wouldn’t considering the position he’s in, taking care of Heaven.

Sam just nodded -Thanks Cas

-Sure I… I’m always here if you need me.

Sam looked at the seraph turn away, not before noticing a soft tremor in the deep sapphire blue of his eyes and felt something was not entirely right but he couldn’t pin it down. For a couple of weeks now Sam had seen Cas turning his gaze away after Sam caught him in the act of staring at him and it was starting to bother the hunter.

-Cas?

The angel turned back at him with a small flutter escaping his sight. All the hunter did was motion his head to a chair for the seraph to go and sit by his side.

-What is it?

-I don’t understand your question.

-You’re troubled by something. And before you say anything against it let me remind you we’ve known each other for years now, don’t think Dean’s the only one able to tell your mood swings.

Castiel was clearly shocked by this piece of information. He blushed immediately after understanding what this probably meant and stumbled his words.

-Nothing, it’s nothing. I don’t…

The seraph faltered while looking straight at Sam’s eyes, he couldn’t just say blatant lies, not to Sam anyways. But not even he understood what was really going on with himself. He turned his gaze down and away from the hunter the way that had been upsetting Sam so much.

Sam just sighed. -Ok look, I know I’m not Dean but you could at least try to trust me a bit more.

-No Sam, it’s not… I’m sorry I… I just don’t know what the problem is myself.

-Hey, it’s alright, if nothing I can listen.

Sam hand surrounded Cas in a comforting motion. The moments both men allowed themselves to be physically close to each other had been scarce throughout the years and Cas lent without hesitation on the hunter’s warm touch. Sam felt the urge in Castiel’s movement and held him closer. There was something obviously wrong, Cas never used to actively seek physical attention.

-Seriously Cas, what’s wrong?

Castiel turned to look at him, probably to give him an answer but he was close enough that Sam would have been able to kiss him if he only went a couple of inches forward. After a moment of silent staring where Sam could’ve sworn his heart stammered, both men awkwardly turned away.

-It’s ok, I’ll figure it out somehow.

The sudden steeling of the angel’s voice threw Sam off a little bit. It didn’t feel right to let his friend go like that. Despite Cas’s soft tug asking to be let out from Sam’s hold he didn’t budge.

-Say, you wanna come with me to the grocer’s market tomorrow?

Castiel turned again, an expression of inquiry as to why the invitation arised.

-There are beekeepers coming, they’ve been bringing all their supplies and showing people how to take care of bees. Been doing that the whole season. We can even buy some honey.

-I’ll go.

Sam just smirked, of course he would come. He finally released the seraph not without feeling slightly guilty for pulling the bee card on him.

Sam waited for his brother until midnight, once he heard Baby coming into the garage he went to receive them. Gabriel acknowledged him like usual but Dean looked kind of unsettled about seeing his brother there.

-Sammy.

-Hey, can I get the car tomorrow? I wanna go to the grocer’s market.

Dean eyed his brother, fighting an internal struggle.

-You’ll take care of her, will ya? -Sam just bitchfaced him. -Ok then, but don’t pass her through the mud or I’ll make you clean it all with a toothbrush.

Dean threw Sam the keys, who caught them mid-air sighing.

-Yeah whatever, car freak.

Haikyuu!! Tsukkiyama Warnings-None

Yamaguchi felt a soft poke on his cheek and started to fumble. He made some weird noises and buried his face between his arms. He was mildly awoken by it but what ended up bringing him back to reality was Tsukiyama’s snicker, yawning he lifted his head from the table and the notebooks.

“Wha—? Tsukki? What time is it?”

“It’s past eleven idiot, you fell completely asleep.”

“Aw man, I don’t wanna go back home right now…”

“Then stay. I already told mom, she doesn’t mind.”

“Yeah, might as well do that.”

After calling his parents to tell them he was staying at Tsukki’s, Yamaguchi and Tsukishima ate something light, took a bath and prepared a futon on the ground for Yamaguchi to sleep on. The next day was Sunday but they were bound for practice so they needed some good rest. The said good night and went silent.

The way his futon was fixed beneath the window helped Yamaguchi watch clearly the full moon on that cloudless night, throwing it’s cool beams and capturing him with it. “Tsuki” He said in a soft voice. There was a soft rustle on Tsukki’s bed where he could make Tsukki’s head pop up from his pillow on the periphery of his sight. He turned to look at him.

“Ah, sorry, I was just admiring the moon, I can’t really see her from my room. It’s amazing.”

Tsukki just moved to lay on his belly and crossed his arms to use them as pillow while looking at Yamaguchi.

“You’re weird” He sent his friend an arrogant smile. Yamaguchi just smiled coyly at him and looked back to the moon, Tsukishima knew there was something going on in Tadashi’s mind, it was just a matter of time for him to blurt it out. After some minutes he spoke once more.

“You’re also amazing.” His gaze began to sober. “Everyone’s so good and amazing I cannot but feel like I’m always one step behind… But you, Tsukki, you’ve always been so good and these past days you’ve been improving so much. I wonder if I’ll ever be able to reach you. I mean look at me, even right now I can only look up to you.”

Yamaguchi smiled sadly towards his friend. Why was he even saying such things? He only hoped it was the effect of the moon what turned him so blue. With every word Yamaguchi said, Tsukki began to get more pensieve. Tadashi just kept looking at the moon, he had been content with expressing himself and didn’t expect an answer.

Suddenly, a pillow landed by his side and he saw his friend getting up from his bed and laying by his side. He turned sideways to face him. The space Tsukishima could fill between Tadashi and the bed was little and it made them closer than normal. Tsukki seemed a little startled by that for a second but then fixed his gaze on his friend.

“Don’t be an idiot, you’ve also grown a lot. You just don’t notice it yourself.”

Tadashi looked at him in surprise and giggled.

“You didn’t have to come down here to tell me that.”

“I had to.”

The severe look of Tsukki’s friend stilled Tadashi’s chuckles.

“Why?”

“Because you need to understand. You’re also amazing and I don’t want you to look up at me. I don’t want to be over or ahead of you, I want us to be side by side.”

Tsukki’s eyes were ernest, a view so rare that filled Tadashi with awe, he was touched by his friend’s sincere words and couldn’t help to drown a sob before beaming back.

“Yeah, I can try doing that.”

Tsukki smiled relieved towards him. Some moments later Tadashi realized something and looked around a bit embarrassed. Tsukishima just looked at him questioningly.

“What is it?”

“Uhm… You going back to your bed or do you want to get below the blanket? I mean, the night’s kinda cold.”

Tsukishima’s eyes went wide when he realized why Tadashi was so embarrassed to say those words and blushed a bit himself but the bully part of him couldn’t avoid wanting to see his friend more flustered. He gave him a devilish grin.

“Well since you insist so much I guess I’ll have to help you warm the bed.”

Tadashi blushed harder before letting out a groan. “Oh, come on Tsukki don’t say it like that!”

Still, he lifted up his blanket to let Tsukishima inside, who was snickering like a kid that had gotten away with a prank.

Just a quick clarification:

Tsukishima’s surname in Japanese is spelled with the kanji “” which also means Moon. Therefore I’m implying that Tadashi is talking about the moon but Tsukki obviously confuses it with being called by his nickname, therefore answering to Tadashi’s call.

A Maiden’s Tale

Find me on AO3

“This is stupid. Like, really stupid. It’s the most stupid idea you could ever have.”

Dean was trailing behind Gabriel through a forgotten path in the middle of a forest, doing his best to keep his dress far from the mud of the ground.

“Well I think you totally look the part, my beautiful maiden” Gabriel chuckled while stopping to do a curtsy towards Dean who bitchfaced him in return.

“Look, all I’m telling you right now is: if this doesn’t work, and I’m pretty damn sure it won’t, I’m frying your wings in holy oil”

“It’s fine Dean! I’m telling ya! They don’t know Loki’s gone and Sygin’s MIA, not that she’d actually help us I guess, you just have to play the part of my new fiancee so you can go search the place for the necklace we need while I entertain the rest of the gods in the main house.”

“Yeah I get that part of the plan but how exactly am I gonna pass for a beautiful maiden? I mean, these gods DO have eyes don’t they?”

“That’s because you never saw Thor disguised as Freyja…”

Dean sent Gabriel a very doubtful stare.

“Ok look, we already agreed that we needed a real person for this because they would be able to tell a mirage from the real thing and I cannot leave their stares. Right?”

“Right”

“The thing here is, even though, yes, I could have brought any other girl of your choice; you’re still gonna be forced to drink a lot. And when I say a lot I mean A LOT. So it’s better if it’s you. I’m gonna use a bit of a distracting spell that will make you look more uhm, feminine. Enough for them to believe the lie but not notice the magic. Trust me, they’ll only have a fair and pure maiden in front of their eyes. You’d even be able to lure a unicorn by your side.” Gabriel followed his words with an impression of how he believed a maiden would move.

“Well I gotta admit that the way things are right now I’m more likely to catch a unicorn than a good night’s sleep…” Grunted Dean, looking back at the previous sleepless nights on the library this headache of a case had given them.

“That’s the spirit Dean-o! Now let’s hit a party worthy of the gods!”

Tapping his walking stick against a rock near his foot three times and saying some words in old norse, he waited until a rainbow that apparently came out of nowhere landed in front of him.

“Ready?” Gabriel extended his hand towards Dean with a wide smile, loud cheering noises of joy and general festivity coming from where the magical road started.

Dean wavered while placing his hand on Gabriel’s but listening to all the noise he had to admit this was starting to look good. More than good. Heck, maybe he would even be able to have more fun than what he expected.

Gabriel seemed to have read his thoughts.

“Oh, by the way Dean, just a quick reminder that what happens in Asgard, stays in Asgard.”

Dean finally smiled broadly at Gabriel’s wink.

“Let’s do this shit.”

It all started two days ago when Jack, left behind on a hunt, had disappeared from the Winchester’s eyes only to show up a couple of hours later without saying a thing of where he had been.

Dean, bless his soul, was the first one to suspect something was odd; having been the one to deal with Sam’s tendency to take care of lost pets, hiding them from his father’s strict sight ever since childhood. He even felt warm inside remembering those simpler days when he finally spotted the young nephilim looking around towards the hallway before stepping out of his room the dawning of the third day.

“Jack!”

The kid jumped startled while locking his room but managed to turn towards Dean in a nonchalant way with a wide smile.

“Good morning Dean, how are you today?”

“Never better kid. Never better.”

“Good.”

An awkward moment of silence spread itself over the two that was eventually broken by Dean, who cleared his throat.

“So, how are you?”

“I’m good. Thank you for asking.” Smile.

“Really..?” Jack doubted for a second when Dean used his inquisitive tone. “Because you see, you’re acting strange.”

“…I am? Not! Not at all! I am being normal. Perfectly normal.”

“I see… Well, let’s hit the kitchen then, those pancakes ain’t gonna cook themselves up anytime soon.” He said with a broad smile, surrounding the nephilim with his arm and pulling him away from his door, sensing a stiffness on his stance that was quite telling.

Later on the evening, he clearly heard Sam all the way from the kitchen while he was chilling on his laptop at the main room oval table.

“Jack? What are you taking all that meat for?”

“I… am hungry” Dean could swear he could see Jack’s wide smile after his matter-of-fact statement.

“Oh, it’s ok, it’s just uh… Do you know how to cook it?”

“Oh I was going to take it raw.”

Odd silence.

“Jack, you do realize you need to cook the meat if you want to eat it, right?”

That was Dean’s cue.

“Hey Sammy! Come on over fast!” He belted out loud enough for Sam to rush where he was, leaving Jack unattended.

“What? What is it!?”

“Oh, nothing man, I just wanted to show you this video. It’s funny as hell” Sam sent Dean a bitchface before turning around on his heel and leaving.

Soon enough Dean heard Sam’s footsteps bringing him back from the kitchen. He didn’t need his brother to say anything to know by his face he was going to be consulted about something.

“Yeah? Wassup?”

“Uhm, Jack fled with all the raw meat”

“I knew it!” A shit eating grin plastered his face while he stood up in victory. Sam only looked at him questioningly.

“That kid will have wished to ask me for permission after I’m done with him. Come along Sammy, and don’t make any noise.”

Slow but surely, the Winchesters made their way to Jack’s door. The more they approached, the clearer they could hear some sort of animal grunts.

“Stop, stop! You’ll choke if you eat that fast! Come on, calm down. I promised you I’d feed you, you don’t have to glomp everything.” The animal noises became calmer. “That’s it, good! You’re a good girl!” sounds of petting, grunt noises of happy approval. Sam didn’t need to hear more to realize the situation they were in and was sure his brother would scream at Jack about being an irresponsible brat until his ear fell off.

“Dean…” Was all he could faintly let out with a hint of begging in his voice. Please don’t scorn the kid was all he was asking for in that single syllable. But his brother turned to him with a steeled eye that told him he could as well give up at that exact moment. He wasn’t going to change his mind.

Their silent conversation was cut off when they clearly heard a short exclamation followed by laughter and the sound of the animal’s claws scratching the concrete floor. Dean didn’t know what kind of dog Jack had brought into the bunker but it sure sounded massive.

“Hahaha! Stop! Don’t… don’t lick me! Ew! Gross! Stop!” More laughter and the sound of frantic paws scurrying at one spot in a clear sign of friendly struggle.

Meanwhile, like a well trained swat team, Sam and Dean placed themselves in front of the door and opened it with a slam.

And they freezed.

Dean had been quite sure about what kind of words he was going to start his righteous speech until he saw Jack plastered on the floor struggling against the animal with his hands, a bit aback that they had found him like that but still with a smile as bright as the sun.

“D…Dean! Sam! Uh…” Was all he could say before a well placed licking made the kid do awkward faces full of gross. “Ew! Uh, uhm I know I should’ve asked before but she was looking so sad and lonely and she didn’t have an owner and… and…” He hugged her in a would be protective way “C—can we keep her?”

Sam on the other hand could understand why his brother had gone hermetically pale and silent. The problem he faced now was not only about Dean telling Jack off for bringing in a dog, because if his brother ever got his words back, things were going to be far worse considering the kid had brought one in that was completely and utterly invisible.

Part 5Part 6

It had been six weeks since Dean and Gabriel had their argument and painful as it was to admit, Sam was starting to feel that nothing was going to get better unless the two of them talked.

-He didn’t mean wrong Dean, I think he honestly thought he was helping. -It was the sixth time this week he had caught his brother frowning at nothing while lost in his thoughts and it was just Tuesday morning.

-Great! Now you’re defending him!

Both Castiel and Sam had prayed to Gabriel in hopes that he would come back from only Chuck knew where he was hanging right now. But he didn’t answer back.

Finally, Dean grabbed the car complaining about being holed up all day and went out for a ride. There was a field nearby where he liked to go see the sunset. He was surprised when he saw Gabriel already sitting on his spot. He had forgotten he had shown Gabriel the place once. He also wondered if this was where he had been all along.

He considered for a second to retreat and drive again back to the bunker but he was already there. Besides, chances were the archangel would fly away as soon as Dean got near. He was always good at avoiding any conflict the Winchester created so he began to stride towards him.

But with every step he took to approach the archangel, the more he wavered.

Gabriel was still sitting there. Ethereal like one of those bronze statues on the park that look at nothing and yet seem to be watching all. The rays of the setting sun hitting his eyes, making them shine with a hint of ancient knowledge, like water filling a pond so profound you never get to see where it’s boundaries lie.

That was the moment Dean knew he couldn’t win this round, not only because both of them had had fault in it, he just didn’t want to fight Gabriel anymore.

He had to struggle with his own ego in order to walk the rest of the path and sit by his side.

They shared the moment when the sun glazed it’s last beam of light before the sky settled in the soft cobalt blue of the newborn night.

Dean sighed.

-Gabriel…

Gabriel didn’t move, for all it counted he could actually have been a statue.

-You know I am glad to know no innocent people were hurt that time but you see if… if there had been someone inside that house, every single wasted moment would have been a matter of life or death. Hunting is not just about going on a killing spree, I mean I love that too but saving people’s lives, that’s what’s really important.

Gabriel didn’t move yet. It was driving Dean mad to see him like that, so far from true human behaviour. It scared him.

-Anyway my point is… I’m sorry. I know you didn’t mean bad, and I know you get really bored on our hunting trips so I thought maybe you should just go, I dunno, take a vacation in Tahiti or get a massage with a happy ending while we go do our job. I know I’m not the best company in the world after all.

This time Gabriel did turn to look at him.

-Have you ever had fun when I take you around?

Dean was startled with the odd question.

-Sure I do.

-Have you ever regretted being by my side?

-No.

-Then, do you really think I’d take you around if I found you boring?

Dean’s stomach tied in a knot.

-I…

-Don’t dare you say you think I would because I swear to dad I’ll smite you.

Dean shut his mouth and tried to swallow what little saliva he had yet hydrating his tongue.

-I, I don’t…

-Look at me Dean.

The hunter obeyed at the commanding order. Locking his sight with the powerful archangel.

-Dean, I like you. Is it that hard to understand that I actually like to spend time with you?

Dean felt powerless, he couldn’t fight such a solid argument but he still didn’t feel like he actually deserved the praise. He stayed silent.

-But if you’re so doubtful, would you allow me to show you how much I care?

Dean was everything but certain but he still managed to give a soft and startled ‘ok’.

He didn’t know what to expect, maybe suddenly finding himself in another room full of pornstars or on a beach in Bali. But he certainly didn’t expect what Gabriel did. Because the archangel embraced him.

And it wasn’t just a normal hug. Well, he would have definitely been shocked only by that considering how little to none acts of affection Gabriel performed, but this time there was something remarkably different. Dean could have sworn the air around him started to brim with energy and he could definitely feel a soft rustle of large invisible feathers pressing all his body, surrounding him, heightening his sense of being.

It was overwhelming. This must have been the same kind of feeling a Saint must have felt in the middle of a revelation. He felt the power of light and life and unadulterated love imbuing every pore of his skin. If he hadn’t believed in Chuck already, just because he had met the guy, this moment would have been the moment when he might have started to believe that God was real after all.

Tears streamed down his face. And he really didn’t know why. All he was able to do was hold Gabriel close to him returning his embrace and hide his face in that nook between his head and shoulder to let his emotions flow. If Gabriel had been a normal human being he might have complained about breathing, the way things were right now, it didn’t really matter. Because he was exactly where he had wanted to be.

Dean wasn’t sure how much time passed by but it sure startled him to see the stars above shining bright under a very dark sky.

-It’s late.

-Or very early.

Dean chuckled. He was still trying to come down from the emotional rush and there was a small tug in his brain already telling him there were high probabilities he wouldn’t want to bring this issue later unless under a huge amount of alcohol running through his veins but he was trying his best to ignore that. He already missed feeling Gabriel’s wings surrounding him and filling his uncertainties with love. Something must have come through his face.

-What?

He looked aside with a rush of red painting his face.

-Nothing. -An awkward silence filled the following moment. -I just thought… I mean, your wings… I’m sorry, I don’t even know what I’m trying to say.

Something soft touched his hand in a flutter.

-They’re always there.

Dean felt his body leaning towards them by impulse. His emotions brought the words to his mouth before his external mask of toughness placed a barrier on them. -I like them. They… they feel good.

-Dean Winchester, do you have a wing kink?

Great, now he was never going to see the end of it. His brain was starting to come up with a snarky retort but Gabriel just laughed. And it wasn’t a cheeky or cynical laugh like his Trickster side used to bring. It was an honest playful laugh. And just like his wings, the sound touched Dean with joy.

-You’re an idiot. -The hunter said with a warm smile on his face.

Now it was Gabriel’s time to be captured by Dean, his soul was glowing in soft ripples of delight. It wasn’t much, but it was a start. And the archangel set to himself the apparently insurmountable task of making Dean’s soul shine the brightest in the world one of these days.

Dean had finally been able to find a moment where neither Sam nor Gabriel were around and was dragging Castiel to the dungeon, the only place Dean knew was warded against a lot of shit, in this case, anyone possibly peeping.

-Cas, this is serious, I swear I’m gonna go nuts if you don’t help me.

-I can’t understand anything if you just say you’re going nuts, you have to explain this to me.

-Ok, so I kissed Gabriel, and a part of his grace got stuck in me, right?

-Right.

-And so I kissed him again so that he could get it back. Right?

-Right.

-But, how do I know he actually took his grace back?

Castiel’s eyes shined in understanding. But there was something that bothered him about it. -I can check inside of you and see if it’s gone but why do you want to know?

-Because… -Dean turned quickly to the door just in case and lowered his voice. -Because I’ve been having this… Damn, it’s hard to put it on words. I mean, I like girls, I’ve always liked girls, you know this right? -Castiel nodded. -But after the last kiss with Gabriel I… If I see a hot guy I… There’s this… this voice in my head telling me to go for it, just like with the girls, and I… I…

Dean struggled to say more but he couldn’t bring himself to and just held his head in dejection. Castiel didn’t need him to finish his sentence, it was obvious what the problem seemed to be.

-Bring a chair, I’ll try to see what’s going on in you but you have to promise not to fight against me. I’m going to get in touch with your soul.

It was a stressful experience to say the least but Dean endured it. He hoped, well he didn’t know what he hoped for but Castiel’s unsettled face wasn’t a good sign.

-Well, the good thing is that Gabriel’s grace is nowhere inside you. He effectively took it away from you.

-Right. So what are the bad news Doc?

-I think Gabriel’s grace helped awake a… a part of you that had been dormant.

-…Meaning?

-Every single human soul is born with many, uhm, basic settings. But that doesn’t mean everyone has each of those settings on, which setting is on or off relies heavily on genes, nurturing, experiences. In this case, after you were born your genes and experiences made you turn on the setting for being attracted to females.

Castiel stopped a second to see if Dean was understanding his explanation. Dean was already dreading the last part of his friend’s speech.

-Right. And…?

-And now, well, Gabriel’s grace is archangel grace, they are made with primordial matter and energy and it stayed way too long inside you. It triggered a change in your gender preferences, influenced probably by Gabriel’s desires and now, well, you’re also attracted to men.

To say he felt shocked was an understatement.

-I’ve never seen something like this happen, but maybe Gabriel might be able to help reverting it. Dean are you ok?

-I will be after a couple bottles of scotch have gone down my throat.

Praying was definitely not part of Dean’s skill sets but he made an effort to call for the archangel after five days had gone by and he hadn’t shown up. He was on the bunker’s rooftop.

-Pretty odd, hearing from you like this.

-Gabriel, we need to talk.

-Whoa, don’t come and tell me you’re pregnant because apart from the fact that you’re a man and it’s physically impossible, we didn’t even get to score home run.

-Well, now that you bring that up, this is still your fault and I damn as well hope you can fix it. -Dean was definitely not in the best of moods. But he managed to calm down and explain himself. -Gabriel, your grace changed me into something I’m not.

-What do you mean?

-Ok, I should have asked Cas for help on this… you know the stuff about settings in a soul turned on and off depending on how you grow up?

-Wouldn’t have used those words myself but yes. Why?

-I’m heterosexual.

-Right.

-Well, your grace turned me bisexual.

Gabriel looked at Dean as if he had grown up a second head and the Trickster side within was compelling him to deny every single fact but making an internal grace assessment he knew Dean was telling the truth.

-Ok, and what about it?

-What about it? Seriously Gabriel!? Turn me back to normal ‘only chick loving’ me!

-But… why?

Dean opened and closed his mouth several times in disbelief. -Because this ain’t me! That’s why!

-But it can be you! You just gotta embrace the feeling!

-You asshole.

-Watch that mouth.

Dean sent him a bitchface worthy of Sam’s approval. -Don’t you think that if it were that easy to change a person we wouldn’t even be having this conversation?

Dean strolled back to the bunker, away from Gabriel. By night he had calmed down quite considerably so when a knock and Gabriel’s voice came softly asking for attention through his bedroom door he answered it and just motioned the archangel to come in, closing the door behind.

-To be straight about it and incredible as it may sound, this is a first for me as well so if you feel like you can’t take it, tell me right away, alright?

Dean would have been able to make at least three different untones right off the bat regarding Gabriel’s words but considering the situation he was at it might not have been the best idea. There was something he didn’t understand yet.

-Why you decided to help me now?

Gabriel was very uncomfortable about this situation too, no matter how much he had wanted Dean, nothing gave him the right to force his desires on him. Even he had his principles.

-Eh, I’m pretty bored right now.

Dean just snickered at him with a suspicious look.

-Ok, so what do I do?

-Well, you can sit or lay down, we definitely can’t do this standing.

Dean motioned himself towards the chair first but after remembering his experience with Cas, he changed his course to the bed and laid himself comfortably in the middle. Gabriel sat by his side and placed his hands over his chest, a soft white glow suddenly coming out. It was an uncomfortable feeling, like having an itch that you cannot scratch but quite endurable unlike what had happened with the seraph.

Having Gabriel so close, his body began to ache the feeling of grinding itself against the archangel like the day they got heady on the couch. A part of him wondered if it had been really that bad. If he had felt it had been wrong. If he didn’t have the need to do it again. If he hadn’t actually wanted to do it at least once more. His mind betrayed him with thoughts of the night before, when he had been thinking about the heavy breathing of the archangel against his lips.

Dean looked up at Gabriel’s blazing, unearthly eyes from where he was and he suddenly felt himself or rather his consciousness pulled towards him, the sheer power of his grace acting like a magnet for his soul.

-Wait. -Gabriel stopped immediately. He looked quizzically at Dean. -Your grace, it’s calling me.

If somebody had ever told Dean some years ago he would be able to live long enough to see an archangel blush, he would have called them crazy. Now he was not so sure.

-Happens all the time, just ignore it. -Gabriel motioned to start again but Dean held one of his hands. -I’m almost there, it won’t take long, I promise. -He was starting to get nervous although he had no idea why.

Dean sat back and looked straight at the angel’s eyes. Gabriel looked at him worried. -Is everything al…mph!

It had been an impulse. That part of him that wanted to go beyond. And he knew he had to make up his mind now or the moment would be lost forever.

Maybe later, Big Boy

As the sun was setting it’s rays felt warmer and warmer, holding up to Dean’s skin, caressing him and telling him that despite the monsters outside everything was alright with the world. He was sitting low over the steps of a staircase, jacket in hand, letting every single fibre of his muscles thrive in the touch of the orb upfront.

-Is this your sunset? -Dean’s attention got caught up by a set of steps coming to a halt by his side. -Can I join in?

Dean looked up and smiled. -Like you’d ask for permission to do a thing.

Gabriel shrugged mindlessly but stood still until Dean gestured him to join. He sat two steps above him.

-I like it, it’s very warm. Just like you.

Dean looked back at the archangel from his low point to snap a silly retort and felt his breath falter. While in rest, Gabriel’s eyes were wide open, not a single trace of the squinting eyes from the mask of mischief he was so used to carry,  looking at the sunset like it was the very first time he had ever seen one. His irises wide enough to have people mistake him for someone far younger than what he was. Locks of hair reflecting rays of sunlight, glowing, and moving gently with the wind. There was not a single adjective Dean could think of using about the vision in front of him at the moment that wouldn’t subtly include the concept of angelical in it.

The archangel turned his eyes back at him, shining gold embraced by a ring of darkness that only made his gaze more magnetic.

-Something wrong Dean-o?

Before he even realized what he was doing, Dean had gone to grab Gabriel’s arm in a rush and woke up with a start.

The darkness of his bedroom held a huge contrast against the sunlight he had been witness to seconds ago. No sight of the archangel anywhere near.

Three days ago he had been sitting on that same bed with Gabriel, drinking a couple of beers and ranting about something stupid like whether it was too soon to consider Boku no Hero a classic or not. Dean had wanted to stay shut towards the bratty archangel but a knock on the door and a serving of Asgardian mead as a mild peace offering had done wonders on Gabriel’s favour.

Dean had been laughing so hard, like he hadn’t for such a long time. It had been so easy to get along with him, open up, talk about the things that neither Sam or Cas would understand. Which was the reason he had been so afraid of Cas letting him into his room, the idiot had already known where his most precious tapes and magazines were at.

But he was gone now. He would never walk into his room again.

Dean turned over to try and catch some more sleep, closing his eyes, trying hard to ignore the blurriness that suddenly covered the bright red numbers of his alarm clock. He didn’t know how long it took him but he finally fell back to sleep. And the dream came once more.

-Something wrong Dean-o?

Dean gulped in pain. Staring at the archangel, losing himself in his gaze. -You’re gone.

Gabriel smiled at him with an inquiring look, as if Dean had been saying nonsense -What are you talking about?

-You’re gone. You… you left us. Again. And this time I saw you die.

Tears began to stream on the hunter’s face.

-I saw you die.

Gabriel kept on smiling with his eyebrow shot up in wonder. Dean held his head down.

-This is just a dream.

-Is it a bad dream?

Dean felt himself drench in sadness.

-No…

-But?

-But it’s not real.

Silence fell between them for a while.

-If only… I just… I just wanted to talk with you more.

The archangel’s voice softened and rasped in response -Well… Maybe later, Big Boy.

The alarm clock jarred Dean up. There was no way of stopping his tears now.

Colorado was less than a day away from Kansas but that didn’t stop Gabriel from whining during the trip when he got bored.

-I’m just saying, why do we even bother driving? I could get us there in a snap.

-Yeah, not happening, I’ll drive with Baby ‘till the day I die.

-Ok but how about I go there, smite whatever’s causing problems and we change routes towards Vegas instead?

Dean just glanced at Gabriel through the rear view mirror. The archangel sighed and lifted up his hands in defeat. He leaned himself over Castiel to use him as pillow and rested his feet over the open window. A chocolate mousse appearing in his hands.

-Watch out for that, you’re cleaning her if you drip anything over.

Gabriel only showed him his tongue in defiance. Sam couldn’t help but chuckle a bit at the childish behaviour both were showing, rolling his eyes in mock annoyment.

-You really do get along well. -Castiel hadn’t precisely tried to make a subtle statement about the kind of relationship Gabriel and Dean shared, he had honestly just said it because it felt like a good thing but both Dean and Sam rustled a bit uncomfortably on their seats. Though none made a go to comment on the other’s response.

-I think so too! -smirk -What ‘bout you lil’ bro? Got someone that you get along well with?

Castiel eyed his brother slightly, the tension coming from the brothers upfront told him there was more to the apparently naive question but he couldn’t get it. -I get along well with both of them. -the tension started to fade away.

-You don’t get along better with one or the other?

-Dude, we’re right here.

-I was just trying to make conversation.

-It’s ok Dean, I love the both of you equally. We’ve been through a lot together.

The fact that Castiel had answered in such a straightforward, innocent way that not even his brother could twist his words was a feat by itself. Sam couldn’t help but give him a warm smile.

-We also love you Cas. You’re the best.

-Aw come on! Stop the sweetness already! I’ll get diabetes!

-That’s rich coming from a guy with a 24/7 pastry diet. -Dean had to admit to himself he would have sided with Gabriel on that if it hadn’t been his little brother the one he was complaining about and there was only one person allowed to mess with Sam in that way. Himself.

The rest of the trip went smoothly, Gabriel magically appeared some double tier hamburgers with extra bacon and chips when the guys got hungry just because they had been way too far away from the last or the next gas stop. Sam wanted desperately to complain about the amount of carbs but it was way too good even for him not to enjoy. Dean even licked his fingers when there was no more.

Gabriel laughed -I can get you another if you want.

-Thanks man but no, I’ll fall asleep on the wheel if I get another one of those.

It was past six o’clock when they arrived to their destination but the boys still went to the police station to gather information regarding the five maimed decapitated male bodies found on the edge of the town in an unmarked communal grave. Some recognised as people gone missing with several years of difference. The angels waiting on the motel room because neither Sam nor Dean trusted either of their communication skills, Castiel was too awkward, Gabriel too crude when he proposed himself to. And considering nobody knew when this would happen they had taken the easy way and left them behind.

Gabriel managed to entertain himself by doing the tallest and largest card tower the room could hold but he was done now.

-…You really don’t feel like dating Sam?

-Why would I want to date him?

-Well, we could go out on double dates. Maybe if they’re up to it we could even do more together as the night arrives. -Gabriel gave Castiel a look that not even he could be dense enough to let pass. He sighed.

-What is wrong brother?

-What do you mean?

-There’s something bothering you, you’re being crass beyond your normal behaviour.

Gabriel gave Castiel a blank stare. He really couldn’t understand how he could be so sharp at some things and so slow with others. And with the way his sight pierced through his vessel’s eyes to look at him he couldn’t force himself to blatantly lie to his younger brother.

-It’s not bothe… Ok yeah, maybe it is bothering me. – Castiel just waited for his brother to continue. -I… I don’t know how to make Dean happy.

It was Castiel’s turn to be stun by Gabriel.

-I think he enjoys what we do together but he doesn’t look genuinely happy. I have only managed to make him laugh once.

-You are concerned by his wellbeing.

The archangel blushed -So what if I am!? I… it doesn’t even matter how much I try if I can’t even get a real smile from him.

Castiel was about to say something when they heard the impala arriving and the sounds of the guys reaching the room. When Dean opened the door, the card tower fell with the blast of wind filling all the room in white, red and black.

-Seriously Gabriel? Come on, poof away all of this, we gotta work.

Sam blasted into the hotel room like a stampede.

-Seriously Dean!? “Wanna come see how good the car feels?”? We’re in the middle of a vampire nest hunt and you’re trying to hook up with the bartender like everything’s done!?

Castiel and Gabriel hastily picked up the cards of their poker game and stepped out of Sam’s bed when they noticed the awful mood the younger Winchester was in.

-And it was totally worth it man, she was a real ginger!

-That’s beyond… urgh! -Sam made an exasperated motion with his arms -You know what? I’m done with your hooking up streak! It’s not just this ginger! Two days ago on Nevada it was the brunette that turned out to be a ghoul, last week there was the blonde one, the week before that the bartender that you ditched me for on the salt and burn and in between all those three, every single time we stopped for fuel or food you had to bat your eyelashes at any girl we passed by! I mean, seriously Dean not even you can get so distracted by women all the friggin’ time!

Dean sat on the edge of the bed after grabbing a beer.

-And would you blame me? All those girls were in desperate need of some love and I was right there, ready to provide. I mean, my heart’s like a condo, if they want in then who am I to deny them passage?

After a few more moments of Sam’s rambling, Gabriel, who had seen the interaction along Castiel with an appraising look approached the hunter and straddled him. Before anyone could say a thing he had surrounded Dean’s shoulders and approached him softly, gently tilting his head enough and softly parting his lips while lowering his gaze towards the hunter in an alluring manner. The moment Dean saw his actions he simply leaned forward and met the archangel in the middle, holding him close with his hand around his waist and indulging in the french kiss the archangel was offering.

Sam, who by that moment thought nothing could actually surprise him anymore was shocked. Not only by the boldness of the archangel, who clearly couldn’t care less about the amount of people in the room but by the way his brother had simply reveled in Gabriel’s touch. Sam approached Castiel who was squinting his eyes in a clear loss for words and grazed his hand to bring his attention. Cas turned to look at Sam. He didn’t need to have been an angel to understand Sam’s face literally asking in panic what the hell was going on. Castiel only moved his head negatively to state not even he had the slightest clue.

After what seemed to have been just some minutes but more than enough time to give Sam nightmares about his brother and the archangel for a lifetime, Gabriel almost unwillingly separated himself from Dean and made to stand up by his side, resting his hand over his shoulder.

-Yup, there’s no doubt about it. He was cursed by that witch you confronted three weeks ago. It wasn’t something serious so I never actually catched it.

He snapped his fingers in front of Dean’s face who suddenly began to act like he was just waking up from an hypnotism session.

-What the hell man?

-Dean? -The hunter turned to look at his little brother- Uh… Are you alright?

-Yeah? Wow, no, wait a second. -He turned upwards to look at Gabriel and looked at him in dread.- Were you just kissing me!?

-Well what can I say Big Boy? You said your heart was like a condo, I say that’s free real estate!

Sam was pacing around the room waiting for Dean to arrive.

He wasn’t nervous, no sir, but he couldn’t help having this hunch that somehow his brother was slowly growing apart from him. He didn’t need to be a genius to understand that Gabriel was as smart as a fox and ten times sharper than that and after talking to Cas that dreaded pull on his stomach had tightened up to an alarming rate.

-Sam.

Then again, Cas had tried to reassure him, telling him that his brother would never hurt Dean. But what would a normal, traditional garrison angel know about the messed up upbringing of a pagan god? Their experiences couldn’t have been more different.

-Sam.

Still, he probably shouldn’t have to worry for real. Because, yeah, an archangel was pretty much courting his brother but that didn’t necessarily mean that Dean was to fall for him. Right?

-Sam!

-Huh?

-Please, stop pacing around.

-Right -He awkwardly made a go for the couch but stopped midway. -…water.

-You’re still worried about Dean? -Cas had to follow him all the way to the kitchen to be able to start the conversation.

Sam chuckled nervously -Of course not! I mean, he’s a grown up man, there’s no reason for me to be worrying about him.

Cas placed a hand over his shoulder. -Trust me, nothing bad will happen.

Sam knew the angel meant well but it was nowhere near enough for him to be reassured. He finally sat down at the table. -I’m sorry Cas, it’s just… I don’t even know why I’m getting so worked up about this. My brain is logical about it but I can’t stop feeling like I’m losing my brother forever.

He was crying. He wasn’t sobbing or wailing, his voice was still stable and assertive, but his body hadn’t been able to keep all the rush of his musings inside.

-And it sounds so stupid when I say it out loud but I can’t help it.

Castiel honestly didn’t know what to do to help Sam feel better about his brother but there was something he probably could say about himself. So he just stayed by his side, waiting for his tears to stop flowing.

-Sam?

He turned towards the angel.

-Remember that time you asked me why I never heard your prayers but came immediately after Dean prayed for me? -Sam just nodded.

-I didn’t tell the truth that day. -Sam stood still for a second.

-What do you mean?

-I thought about it time and again and back in the day it didn’t make sense so I just said what I thought was the more obvious reason. It became clear only after a long time.

The hunter waited patiently for the angel to end his thoughts.

– When Dean asked me to answer to your prayers it was literally strenuous. It was impossible for me to keep a stable connection with you. And then came the time to realize you had been missing something ever since I had brought you back from The Cage. That’s the moment I realized it was not that I had tuned out your prayers or that I had a more profound bond with Dean, it was that you didn’t have a soul.

Realization slowly dawned on the hunter’s face. Of course, it was so obvious. You cannot really have faith if you don’t have a soul. Even if he logically believed in Castiel since he had seen him and been with him that didn’t mean he had real faith. That only came from your soul.

-I should have had been able to realize there was a problem if I hadn’t been so worried about myself back then. I… I’m sorry Sam.

It was weird how a situation from ages ago still had an impact on him. He hadn’t thought about it for years and yet the moment Castiel offered him an apology he had felt ten times better.

-It’s ok Cas, it wasn’t your fault either.

Castiel gave him an awkward thin smile and turned his gaze down. There were times Sam couldn’t help himself and think the angel was absolutely endearing and smiled softly at him. They heard noises coming from the garage. Dean and Gabriel had finally arrived and Sam stood up to grab the bags.

-Come on Cas, it’s time to go.
